These take a long time to learn well but they support most TW requirements.Choose a non-WYSIWYG technology such as DITA or DocBook, which are based in XML technologies. These take the longest time to learn but are the way of the future because they enable the best use of current and future technologies. For example, one day I hope to write documentation that users can customize for themselves by adding content such as "In this department, we use the XYZ procedure because it is more accurate than the ABC procedure." and this content will be carried over to newer versions of the documentation. This ability will only be possible with XML (or equivalent) technologies. And there are many more reasons to choose these tools, such as content reuse and flexible output options.
